Renée P Marks, PhD

Renée Potgieter Marks completed pre-graduate and post graduate education in South Africa at the University of Pretoria, University of Stellenbosh and the University of  South Africa.  She completed developmental research on clinical assessments of children as well as assessing sexual abuse in young children.  Renée established a therapy centre in South Africa, for assessing and treating children, adolescents and adults. Renée works with children in birth, adoption, foster and SGO families for the past 45 years, of which she is working in England for the past 23 years.  She was also an expert witness in South Africa and later in England.
 
Renée is therapist and clinical lead of Integrate in the North of England where she works with a team of therapists.  They specialise in more complicated cases of children suffering from complex trauma and dissociation.  This is also the National Centre of Child Trauma and Dissociation. She regularly provides clinical supervision and consultation to individual therapists and groups, nationally as well as internationally. Renée is a national and international trainer as well as the founder of Child-Insight, providing face to face and online training for therapists, mental health professionals, social workers, parents, adoptive parents, foster carers and SGO parents, on various relevant topics.  Renée have already presented more than 300 times at conferences and other training events.
 
She is chair of the Child and Adolescent Committee of the ESTD and was involved in developing the Guidelines for the Assessment and Treatment of Children and Adolescents with Dissociative Symptoms and Dissociative Disorders. She is also co-author of the book Treating Children with Dissociative Disorders: Attachment, Trauma, Theory and Practice and has published multiple chapters in academic books as well as professional articles. She has been a fellow of the ISSTD since 2012 and in 2015 received the Cornelia Wilbur Award from the ISSTD for her work with Children and Adolescents with complex trauma and dissociation.  She is a member of BACP and UKCP.
